Although bingo may not seem to be the game of choice for the rich and famous, many celebrities openly adore the game and regularly attend bingo games or even host their own bingo parties!
Catherine Zeta-Jones is known for regularly hosting bingo parties for her famous friends, and she’s not the only one that enjoys hosting these events! Mick Jagger and Simon le Bon are also said to host and attend bingo parties. Prince William has also been spotted relaxing with a game of bingo, buying £5 of tickets and settling down for a thrilling game. Sadly, the Prince wasn’t lucky this time!
It’s not widely known that Russell Crowe once used to be a bingo caller, until he was sacked for saying phrases such as “number 1, up your bum”. Although having swapped for a more successful acting career, Russell still finds time to attend local bingo halls in the cities that he films in. Robbie Williams is also known for enjoying a good game of bingo when he’s free. When he’s not touring or in concert, Robbie likes attending his friends’ bingo parties or trendy bingo halls in London.
The comedian, Ricky Tomlinson, best known for his portrayal of Jim Royle in the TV comedy-drama The Royle Family, has released an interactive bingo DVD game which sees him take the role as bingo caller. An interesting twist is Ricky’s 5 different bingo caller characters, with their own “style” of bingo calling!
Gary Barlow has also caught the bingo fever, by throwing a celebrity bingo party for his and his wife Dawn’s tenth wedding anniversary party! Other celebrities in attendance included Mark Owen, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Cole, Fearne Cotton, Ronan Keating, Denise Van Outen, Alesha Dixon, Lulu, Chris Moyles and Beverley Knight. Gary himself acted as host and caller for the evening, with all the other guests enjoying a thoroughly good evening of bingo-based entertainment.
